A Safe Place for Recovery

43 Meetings Weekly

OUR FOUNDATION The Yellow House Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization operating in the state of Texas formed in 2003 that is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors who are committed to this mission of recovery in Central Texas. The Yellow House Foundation is the largest nonprofit 12 Step organization for alcohol and substance abuse recovery in Williamson County. For those in recovery and their families, the Yellow House Foundation provides a home for hope.

Our contribution to this community has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, the Texas House of Representatives unanimously passed House Resolution 2149, honoring the Yellow House Foundation for “its contributions to substance abuse recovery in Williamson and Travis Counties.” The full text of this HR 2149 is included in the back of the YHF Building Fund Partnership packet.

RECOGNIZING THE PROBLEM Alcohol and substance abuse are diseases that do not discriminate and can affect those from all walks of life. While often stigmatized, more often it is overlooked or kept quiet. Addiction affects not only these individuals, but their families who suffer with them, their friends, their co-workers and employers, and anyone who shares the road or interacts with them. Giving people and their families the tools to overcome this disease is our passion and purpose. Here are some facts to consider:

  • By the end of 2020, mental and substance use disorders had surpassed all physical diseases as a major cause of disability worldwide.

  • Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, it was estimated that approximately 34,000 (7.5%) Williamson County residents struggle with drug and/or alcohol dependence.

  • About 6,000 adults are arrested in Williamson County each year for alcohol or drug violations.

These numbers do not take into account the surrounding communities like Austin in our neighboring Travis County—which has one of the highest DWI rates in Texas—that utilizes the services provided by the Yellow House Foundation. HELPING THE SOLUTION Many people assume 12 step and other recovery groups just happen on their own and always find places to meet. But these groups are limited because they have to rent rooms from places like churches or community centers that have their own activities. This usually provides them a chance to offer only one meeting per week while attendees are left on their own in the meantime. The Yellow House Foundation is different. We provide a permanent home for these groups and offer a safe haven every day of the week for recovery. This is the invaluable advantage of having a partnership with a nonprofit organization like ours.
